Madgirl City is a newborn baby, so it’s still discovering its path in the world. It was literally born yesterday, June 22nd, 2019, and it’s a madgirl, so give it a break.
What I can tell you is this: if you’re looking for ideas, methods, remedies, and tips on how to maintain your best levels of mind-body wellness, then this is the place for you. We can always widen the scope of subjects as Madgirl goes from baby to toddler, but currently, it’s a place for earth goddesses and queens, starboys, topboys, and mermaids. Definitely stick around if you’re sweet but a psycho, and also if you’re just a regular person named Bill looking for a good herbal tea to put you in the ground. I’ve got something for everyone.
So, who am I?
Hi, I’m Natalie. I’m a writer.
A few things about me that might come up: I was born in the UK and grew up in Houston, TX. I’m a dual citizen and for the past 8 years, I’ve been splitting my life between London and Houston. So, if you catch me using British and American English interchangeably, that’ll be why. Deal with it.
I have a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Surrey, so not only am I a boss bitch, but I’m also broken and broke. Fortunately, I’ve managed to collect a hefty stock of wellness lifehacks and experience from all that time spent procrastinating during my doctorate – and that’s what I’m here to share with you.
But what exactly do I mean by mind-body wellness? How am I going to take you from madfolk to gladfolk?
Well, besides writing, I have expertise in two areas: being crazy and being outraged – the two forms of madness. That makes me a madgirl extraordinaire.
Stay with me.
First, let’s talk about crazy. I was diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type when I was 16 (formerly known as ADD) and more recently, bipolar II. Remember when I told you I was a dual citizen? Well, I meant it. A dual life citizen. Like Nicki, my shoe game crazy, the mental asylum looking for me. I’ve also got a brother with autism, a boyfriend with ADHD and glasses, and a fat dog with Napoleon Complex. So, I know a thing or two about managing crazy, and I’m here to share it all.
My other expertise in madness is outrage. What am I outraged about?
I’m outraged by all the traditional things: news, politics, shitstorm governments in my two lands, climate change denial, attacks on women’s rights to bodily autonomy, neo-nazis, soldiers of the not-all-men brigade – you know, the full hoonanni.
But I’m also outraged by more localized affronts, like when I get bouts of adult onset acne or a muther fuggin migraine that I don’t deserve. I’m outraged when I can’t sleep for no reason or get sick of my work out playlist or get redirected to the “plus size” palazzo pants for being a SIZE EIGHT. Geezus.
Don’t fret, though. Madgirl City isn’t a place where I just rant and mistreat you like we’re on Facebook. It’s a place for me to write about solutions to combat the outrage – or at least, a well-researched and developed perspective.
Ultimately, my goal with this blog is to address dramas, problems, and ailments that so many of us face in the hope that some of my solutions can serve as your solutions. We’re all mad here, amirite?
And I don’t want to wave my creative writing degree in your face or anything, but you can expect a spoonful of pure literary genius to help this medicine go down.
So, to sum up, Madgirl City is a place for me (madgirl extraordinaire) to share my ideas, methods, remedies, and solutions for reaching general mind-body wellness, discuss living with mental illness, and toss in a few bonus features that we can categorize under “a madgirl’s guide to life” or “outrageous miscellaneous garbage.”
My truest hope in all the blogspheres is that you come here as madfolk and leave as gladfolk.
